Welcome to Jack's science and technology webpage. Jack is an Assistant Professor - Research and leads the aquatic invertebrate research and technology programs at the Aquatic Germplasm and Genetic Resources Center (AGGRC), a part of the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center School of Renewable Natural Resources.
The aquatic invertebrates team is currently working to develop germplasm and genetic resource repositories through cryopreservation for two biomedical model systems (California sea hare - Aplysia californica and Green sea urchin - Lytechinus variegatus) and two commercially important crustaceans (White-legged shrimp - Litopenaeus vannamei and Red swamp crayfish - Procambarus clarkii).
The team is also developing the Aquatic Invertebrates and Algae Germplasm and Genetic Resources Protection Network. The mission of the network is to provide global leadership and interdisciplinary structure for community development and collaboration to address the widespread and urgent needs to develop pathways, processes, and technology for safeguarding the germplasm and genetic resources of aquatic species. Transcending traditional species boundaries, cross-cutting fields of study, and focussing on application, the network strives to facilitate the generalization and scalability of processes and sharing of knowledge and technologies to ensure the sustainable management of aquatic genetic resources.
